Valley performers shine in year-end concerts

Maybe it’s a good thing I didn’t drive up expecting to buy a ticket at the door. The Vindys sold out the Live Nation venue. In addition to the Mahoning Valley faithful that were in attendance, the band has a growing following on the North Coast. The group sold out the Music Box Supper Club multiple times, but HOB is about three times larger, and a sellout there is the kind of thing that will get the attention of others in the music industry.

The Vindys will cap a huge year with a hometown show at Westside Bowl on Saturday, Oct. 14. It will be the Youngstown-based rock band’s final local show for a while. The next one won’t be until spring, when the band will release a new full-length album.

Women Who Rock brings heart to Pittsburgh’s can’t-miss October concerts

So believe her when she says she’s especially excited about the star of this year’s show on Oct. 21 at Stage AE: Heart’s co-founder and lead singer Ann Wilson, “the original woman who rocks.”

Ann and her band, Tripsitter, will top a bill that includes Youngstown rockers The Vindys, featuring lead singer and songwriter Jackie Popovec, and local DJ Madame Trio.

“These shorts could use some therapy” was the theme of one of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival categories and, boy, could they ever! Some people would rather travel through time, raise the dead, stuff their deceased pets and whip the responsibility out of themselves rather than do battle with the bugs in their minds keeping them awake at night. In these five shorts and two music videos, we get a hilariously entertaining look at avoidance syndrome and how life itself can force you to grow up whether you want to or not. So, pop a squat on the therapist’s couch and get ready to have your mind expanded because these shorts are truly, “Bats**t Crazy.”
